Questons About Denture Appointments

It takes several appointments to have dentures made. The number of appointments varies depending upon if teeth need to be removed or not. If it is necessary to remove teeth, then a healing period of six weeks is generally required, before primary impressions can be taken.

Appointment #1

When making dentures the first step is a primary impression. From this impression, custom trays are designed to fit your mouth.

Appointment #2

At the second appointment these trays will be used to take as exact impression of your mouth. This extra step obtains the best fit possible. From these impressions, bite rims are made.

Appointment #3

Bite rims are made of wax, which is contoured to the general shape of your mouth. These are also used to see how your jaws relate to each other both horizontally and vertically. Once the bite is established the teeth can be set into wax bite rims. The tooth color and shape are also decided at this appointment.

Appointment #4

The teeth now set up in wax can be tried in the mouth to check for color, shape and arrangement. Any changes that need to be made are done at this time. Once the teeth are set to your satisfaction, out lab technician can process them for delivery.

Appointment #5

The dentures are now delivered. (All remaining teeth are extracted for immediate dentures)

Appointment #6

The next day an adjustment appointment will be necessary. Dentures are processed on a hard model and your mouth is soft, therefore, there are generally sore spots. It usually takes 3 to 5 adjustment appointments to relieve the sore spots as the dentures settle into place.
